Project Type
Period House Refurbishment
Duration
32 weeks
Project Value
£320,000
The Challenge
The Georgian house had undergone a series of insensitive 1980s alterations — a polyurethane-coated pine kitchen, suspended ceilings concealing original plaster, and cement render externally. Removing these required careful archaeological-style investigation to assess what original fabric remained below. Listed Building Consent was required from Camden for all alterations, including the removal of the 1980s insertions.
Our Solution
We appointed a conservation architect who undertook a full building survey documenting all original and later fabric before any work began. Listed Building Consent was obtained for the full scope including removal of the 1980s alterations and repair of the original fabric. Specialist lime plasterers restored the original plaster ceilings and cornices. External cement render was removed and the original lime render reinstated.
