The Challenge

The existing kitchen was in a structurally complex position — a Victorian rear wing with low ceiling beams at irregular intervals. The clients wanted full-height cabinets, but the beam positions meant standard tall cabinet heights were impossible in several locations. The floor was an old quarry tile over compacted earth, which required full excavation and a new concrete slab before underfloor heating could be installed.

Our Solution

Our joiner produced bespoke cabinets designed around the beam positions — incorporating the beams within the design through painted hardwood casings that became a feature. The quarry tile floor was excavated, a DPM laid, and a 100mm reinforced concrete slab poured and screeded to accept the underfloor heating. The finished floor level matched the adjacent dining room precisely.
