The Challenge
The 1930s property had original knob-and-tube wiring that had been partly overlaid with 1970s additions — creating a dangerous hybrid electrical system that required full replacement. The kitchen had been extended into the original utility room in the 1990s in a way that blocked the natural light from the original kitchen window, making it permanently dark. Rising damp was present in the front bay groundwork.
Our Solution
Full rewiring was prioritised as the first trade package, with the 1970s overlay and original knob-and-tube system fully removed. The 1990s kitchen extension was redesigned to introduce a rooflight over the original window position — restoring natural light. Rising damp in the front bay was treated with a chemical DPC and replastering. A new consumer unit and NICEIC certificate were issued.
