The Challenge
The existing bathroom was significantly over-specified with a jacuzzi bath and multiple jets that had been installed through the structural floor — removal required careful structural investigation. The existing pipework was in lead and required full replacement. The clients specified large-format Calacatta marble which required careful substrate preparation to prevent any deflection cracking.
Our Solution
A structural engineer confirmed the floor joists could carry the new freestanding bath load without reinforcement. Lead pipework was fully replaced with copper throughout the bathroom and riser. Large-format marble was laid on a Wedi board substrate fixed directly to the floor joists using Mapei Ultralite flexible adhesive — eliminating any risk of deflection. All marble was laid with matched veining for a book-matched appearance.
