The Challenge
The existing bathroom had an old acrylic bath that had been poorly installed — one leg had been sitting directly on a floor joist, which had caused the joist to crack over time. The crack was discovered during the strip-out phase. The WC also had a low-level cistern that protruded significantly from the wall and wasted useful space in a modestly sized bathroom.
Our Solution
The cracked joist was sistered with a new full-length C24 timber, confirmed sound by a structural engineer. A concrete pad was installed under the freestanding bath position to distribute the load evenly over multiple joists. The WC was replaced with a wall-hung close-coupled model, freeing 200mm of floor space and making the room feel noticeably larger. The floor was tanked with a Wedi system before tiling.
