The Challenge
The existing bathroom had a badly leaking shower tray that had caused significant water damage to the floor joists below. The joists required treatment and partial replacement before the new bathroom could be fitted. The clients wanted a freestanding bath positioned away from all walls, which required the waste to be routed through the floor — a point load that needed structural consideration given the compromised joists.
Our Solution
Affected joists were sistered with new timber after treatment with a boron-based preservative. The structural engineer confirmed the treated and sistered joists could carry the point load of the freestanding bath on a concrete pad. The bath waste was routed through the floor void in a proprietary flexible waste trap. The shower tray was replaced with a Wedi solid surface unit, properly tanked.
