The Challenge
The bathroom was in a Grade II listed property requiring Westminster Listed Building Consent. The clients' specification included a large steam shower with a Helo steam generator requiring a penetration through an external wall for ventilation — this penetration required careful heritage justification. The existing Victorian cast iron waste pipes were failing and required replacement within the listed floor void.
Our Solution
Westminster consented the steam shower ventilation penetration on the basis that it would be through an existing blocked Victorian chimney flue, leaving the original fabric intact. The Victorian cast iron waste pipes were replaced with modern MUPVC within the floor void under Westminster supervision. All tiling was fixed to Wedi board substrates to avoid any cement screed that might stress the listed floor structure.
